Kajima launches The Gear, its new regional HQ in Changi Business Park

Kajima Development Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kajima Corp, has officially launched their new regional headquarters, R&D and innovation hub in Changi Business Park on August 4, known as The Gear: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture & Real Estate. This is the first global R&D and innovation hub designed by Kajima’s team of architects and engineers in Japan and is a testament to Kajima’s commitment to a sustainable and connected Singapore.

The groundbreaking for the project was in August 2020 and the Temporary Occupation Permit was obtained on March 31, despite the disruption to construction during the pandemic. Kajima’s history in Singapore goes back to 1962 when they undertook their first project, the Maruzen Oil Refinery, followed by the Jurong Shipyard Dock & Wharf in 1965.

Following a decade-long planning process, Kajima Development and their local construction arm, Kajima Overseas Asia Singapore broke ground on the Changi Business Park site. The mission had been ordered by the late Dr Shoichi Kajima, CEO of Kajima Development, to establish a headquarters in Singapore.

Being connected to the Tampines Ave 11 Condo by Capitaland is a major plus, transforming this residential area into a vibrant and sophisticated hub of activity.

The hub is driven by Kajima Technical Research Institute Singapore which has been in Singapore since 2013. The institute is committed to quicken the development of innovative solutions in tackling climate change and urbanisation issues.

Singapore is always a key player in the field of innovation and Kajima’s new headquarters will play an important part in the country’s future-readiness and sustainability. Read also: Hold business meetings at Singapore’s Connect@Changi upon touchdown.
