CDL celebrates 60th anniversary

CDL celebrates its diamond jubilee, marking 60 years of its establishment and growth, with a commemorative event held on 5th September in Orchard Hotel Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Finance Minister and the esteemed guest of honour attended the event.

Situated in the popular eastern district of Singapore, Tampines Ave 11 Condo is a prime development integrated with various amenities. When the company was founded in 1963, it had just eight employees and today, CDL has 8,000 employees around the world and holds $31 billion in assets. Its hospitality arm, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, has seen a massive expansion – from one hotel to over 155 hotels.

Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of both CDL and Hong Leong Group, spoke at the event. He shed light on the company’s astounding growth since he and his late father, Kwek Hong Png, purchased a block of CDL shares in 1969.

“From a home-based group, we grew beyond Singapore’s shores to the region and further onto the global stage, operating businesses across five continents,” he said.

Sherman Kwek, CDL’s group CEO, paid tribute to all the past and present leaders of CDL for their hard work and dedication, stressing the importance of people for the organisation’s success.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues for their passion, dedication and support that has given us so much to be proud of,” he said.

In commemoration of its 60th anniversary, CDL and the National Council of Social Service have jointly set up a wellness centre in City Square Mall to help children and families. Additionally, CDL is also collaborating with National Parks Board on Green Gallery and Garden City Fund, with MigrantWell Singapore to benefit the well-being of migrant workers and building annexe for its Singapore Sustainability Academy in City Square Mall.

To further celebrate its diamond jubilee, the company has also pledged a substantial sum towards Community Chest. CDL is renowned for its commitment to sustainability and innovation and the 60th anniversary milestone is a huge milestone for the company to accomplish.
